HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR

My family and I are looking forward to the Chinese New Year celebrations this week starting with our New Year Eve dinner on Friday and continuing with the celebrations well into the following week.

My menu for this year will be based on the top seven lucky foods traditionally served during the 16 day festival season. These include Dumplings & Spring Rolls which are both symbols of wealth. Noodles bring happiness & longevity and Fish an increase in prosperity. I have also chosen to add Sweet Rice Balls to the menu which symbolises ‘family togetherness’ and finish our meal with Good Fortune Fruit symbolising ‘fullness & wealth’. As usual I’ll be putting my own twist to these dishes by using my readymade Nonya Secrets sauces.

This rather special menu will be posted on the website. I’ll also be posting additional recipes and videos on Instagram over the next couple of weeks showing you how to recreate these dishes at home using my sauces.

During the festival season I’ll be hosting tasting sessions in some of our stockists. Look out for the dates on social media!

CHINESE NEW YEAR BANQUET

Steamed pork and mushroom dumpling
served with sweet soya and garlic dip
Vegetable spring rolls filled with julienned vegetables
served with Nonya Sweet Chilli Sauce
Crispy marinated jumbo prawns in sesame and soya
served with Nonya Sweet Chilli Sauce

Vermicelli rice noodles served with Nonya Sambal Sauce
enriched with shrimps and coconut cream

Braised magret duck in soya sauce, flavoured with galangal and star anise
Crispy sweet & sour seabass fillet served with Nonya Chilli and Ginger Sauce
Lamb slow cooked in Nonya Rendang Curry Sauce and flavoured
with lemon grass, lime leaves and roasted coconut.

Stir-fried broccoli and fine beans with ginger and soya sauce
Hainan style rice cooked in chicken broth flavoured

With sesame oil and ginger

Sweet glutinous rice balls filled with palm sugar and coated with grated fresh coconut
